Job Title: BOQ / Estimation Engineer
Job Summary
The BOQ Engineer is responsible for studying project drawings, performing accurate quantity take-offs, and preparing detailed Bills of Quantities (BOQ) and cost estimates. This role ensures proper cost control, supports tendering and procurement processes, and works closely with project managers, site teams, and contractors. [1, 2, 3, 4]
Key Responsibilities
  • Drawing & Document Review: Study architectural, structural, and MEP drawings, specifications, and contract documents thoroughly before project execution. [1, 2]
  • Quantity Take-Offs: Calculate accurate material, equipment, and labor quantities from design drawings using standard measurement methods. [1, 2, 3]
  • BOQ Preparation: Create clear, structured, and itemized Bill of Quantities documents detailing item descriptions, units (m³, m², kg, Nos.), and precise quantities. [1, 2]
  • Rate Analysis: Conduct detailed rate analyses for project items by evaluating current material costs, labor rates, overheads, and profit margins. [1, 2]
  • Tender & Bid Support: Prepare cost estimates and documentation for tender submissions, client proposals, and subcontractor evaluations. [1, 2, 3]
  • Cost Control & Reconciliation: Compare planned BOQ estimates with actual site execution, monitor variations, and assist with budget tracking. [1]
  • Cross-Functional Coordination: Collaborate with site engineers, procurement, planning, and finance teams to clarify scope changes and material requirements. [1]
Required Qualifications & Skills
  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Civil Engineering, Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or Construction Management. [1, 2]
  • Experience: 3 to 6 years of proven experience in quantity estimation, costing, or tendering within the construction or fit-out industry. [1, 2, 3]
